C&K Secondary Information
At the Calderdale & Kirklees Teaching School (CKTS) we run a Secondary School Direct Initial Teacher Training programme in association with our university partner, the University of Huddersfield.
On successful completion of the course you will achieve a Secondary PGCE in your chosen subject; this carries 60 credits at level 7, 'Masters Level' & Qualified Teacher Status QTS.
Our innovative training programme includes two different secondary school placements (September – December, January – June), a programme of practical and theoretical training sessions based in our partner schools and led by specialists, subject and lead mentor support, and masters level assignments.
You will work alongside teachers and leaders in your own subject specialism, and across the school to build your knowledge & experience of wider school responsibilities. These additional specialisms will include pastoral care, special educational needs, form tutor responsibilities & whole school teaching & learning.
We have a track record of developing outstanding future teachers, all of whom have secured posts in schools, many within our own alliance.
As a hub we have a wide range of secondary school partners that can offer teacher training placements in a wide range of subject specialisms, in Years 7 – 13, and experience of sixth-form.
