NPQ Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD)

Programme Overview:

Participants will become expert educators and learn how to successfully support their teachers to improve their own practice through carefully sequenced professional development. 


Curriculum:

On this programme, you will learn how to:

  • Make sure professional development in your school is focused on a shared responsibility for improving outcomes for all pupils.
  • Diagnose what teachers know and can do, starting professional development from that point and adapting the approach based on developing their expertise.
  • Help teachers improve through evidence-based professional development focused on improving classroom teaching.
  • Gain an understanding of what teachers have learnt by reviewing patterns of performance over a number of assessments and lead a team of colleagues who can facilitate a range of professional development approaches.
  • Contextualise teacher development based on a variation of school, pupils and teacher needs.
  • Contribute to a programme of professional development for mentors, trainees and early career teachers.

How you will learn:

The content is delivered through blended learning comprising in-person, real-time, interactive online sessions and self-guided modules you complete in your own time. Over the 12-month course duration, you will attend / complete:

  • 1 x 6hr conference - at the start of the programme (in-person).
  • 6 x courses - each course is 6 weeks in length and comprises 6 modules. You will complete 1 module  (50mins) per week.  
  • 5 x 2hr facilitated twilight clinics (online).
  • 3 x 1hr 15mins communities - peer-led group sessions (online or in-person).
  • 1 x 2hr assessment clinic (in-person).
  • Final assessment - written response to a case study to be completed within an 8-day window.

Eligibility:

To apply, you must be a teacher who has, or is aspiring to have, responsibility for leading other educators to develop.  You might support the development of all teachers in your school, trainees or those early in their career.  Participants must be in, or have been in, a teaching role. 

Example roles: Head of teaching development/CPD | Year group leader | Subject leader | Key stage/phase leader | Head of Department | Assistant/Deputy Head | Headteacher | Head of ITT | Second in Maths | Class teacher

Funding:

NPQ scholarship funding has changed. Visit the DfE website for more details and to check eligibility status.

If you do not work in an eligible school, the cost of this NPQ is £899 plus VAT. 


Apply:

Our next cohort commences in Autumn 2024.  Limited funded places are available.  Follow the steps below to register for your chosen NPQ.  

1. Register with Ambition Institute, our lead provider, via this link Register your interest in our NPQs | Ambition Institute

2. Register with the DfE Register for a national professional qualification (education.gov.uk).  You will need your TRN.  Please select Ambition Institute as the lead provider.  

3. Your application is assessed (applications will be considered in the order they are received) and if successful you will receive an offer.
