Why do an NPQ?

National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) are the most widely recognised professional development qualifications in the education sector for current and aspiring leaders.  Accredited by the Department for Education (DfE), NPQs equip teachers with the expertise to lead sustainable improvement across their schools.  They will support you to develop the skills and knowledge to progress in your career and to support your school.  

Which NPQ is right for you?

CKTSH, in partnership with our lead provider, Ambition Institute, offer the full suite of NPQs;

Specialist NPQs - These NPQs provide continued professional development for teachers who want to make their classroom teaching the best it can be, whether or not they move into school leadership.

  • NPQ in Leading Teaching (NPQLT)
  • NPQ in Leading Behaviour and Culture (NPQLBC)
  • NPQ in Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD)
  • NPQ in Leading Literacy (NPQLL)

Leadership NPQs - These NPQs cater to teachers in leadership, or aspiring towards leadership.  

  • NPQ in Senior Leadership (NPQSL)
  • NPQ in Headship (NPQH)
  • NPQ in Early Years Leadership (NPQEYL)

NPQs are currently FULLY FUNDED for all state schools and state funded organisations, including those that offer 16-19 age places in England. 

For each teacher or leader a state-funded school and state-funded 16 to 19 organisation employs and who starts a NPQ (Early Headship Coaching Offer is excluded) in the 2023 to 2024 academic year, the following DfE's TARGETED SUPPORT FUND grant payment will apply: 

  • £800 for state-funded primary schools with 1 to 150 pupils 

  • £200 for state-funded primary schools with more than 150 pupils 

  • £200 for state-funded secondary schools and state-funded 16 to 19 educational settings with 1 to 600 pupils
