Initial Teacher Training

ITT recruitment for 2026-27 is in full swing with applications coming in across a wide range of secondary subjects and the primary phases. Applications remain open until June and details of our Train to Teach offer can be found here – Calderdale and Kirklees Teaching School Hub - Train to Teach : Welcome to our ITT Programme.

Our current cohort of trainees, 80 full time & part time, have enjoyed immersing themselves into their second school placement, developing their teaching practice, confidence and character. Trainees have taken placements across a total of 46 Share MAT and partner schools this academic year and we are grateful to all of the school staff that support them in their training journey.

If you are a school that does not currently work with us for ITT, please get in touch to discuss offering a placement from September 2026.

In the final term we anticipate recruitment to keep us very busy and we look forward to hosting our ‘Flying Start’ week - a chance for us to gather all of our new recruits together ahead of their September start. July also sees us attend the graduation ceremony for this years’ trainees – more detail to follow in our summer newsletter.

We’re on the hunt for more marketing material! Leanne or Katy may be reaching out to you and visiting your schools to capture some of the amazing teaching and mentoring that you offer our ITT’s. If you would like to share any of your own photos or video links with us, please email: leanne.scott@sharemat.co.uk

Early Career Teacher Programme

We have over 400 ECTs and 150 mentors working through their training with us, and event attendance has been over 95%, so a big thank you to everyone involved in both the facilitation and logistics to make this possible.

We attended all ECT events this term and the ECTs were extremely engaging and positive about the programme and the conferences they attended.

'Incredibly helpful and willing to answer questions about specific areas I had been struggling with during some lessons. I now have solutions that I will implement on returning to teaching on Monday'

Next term, Year 1 ECTs will attend their Clinic 3 and Year 2 ECTs will attend their final Clinic 6 event. There will also be online training for mentors, so look out for dates and booking details.

The DfE are introducing a new registration system in the summer – Register Early Career Teachers (RECT). The new service will replace the current Manage training for early career teachers service. We will share more information on how to use this in the summer term.

The next Induction Tutor breakfast briefing will be held on Thursday 16th April at 7.45 a.m. The Zoom link can be found on our website.

NPQ's

  • Our next NPQ cohorts are expected to commence in Autumn 2026.  The DfE’s move to a single NPQ cohort intake per academic year means there will be no spring cohort.  If you or your members of staff are interested in undertaking a specialist or leadership NPQ commencing Autumn 2026, we encourage registering your interest early via this form  Expression of Interest for NPQ Programmes.  We hope to be able to share details on funding eligibility and the application process in the summer term.
  • Participants on both our specialist (Spring 2025) and leadership (Autumn 2024) cohorts have worked incredibly hard over the last 12/18months and go to assessment in April.  We wish them the very best of luck with their submission.
  • Our other NPQ cohorts continue to make excellent progress engaging positively with their online learning and facilitated sessions.
  • We are always keen to celebrate the work of our participants. If you would like to share how your NPQ learning is having a positive impact on you/your school, please get in touch cktsh@sharemat.co.uk - we would love to feature your work in a future newsletter!

Appropriate Body

It has been another successful term for our AB services, supporting around 470 ECTs in 170 schools. We have visited 40 schools, either in person or virtually, and have welcomed a number of new schools and induction tutors to the service.

The end of term is always a busy time as we review all of the termly ECT reports, but it fills us with joy reading about just how fantastically ECTs are progressing.

We strive to offer you the most effective, value for money service we can and have kept our fees the same this academic year. We continue to contribute to national and regional advisory boards and always feed forward your comments and concerns.

We would like to wish everyone a restful and enjoyable break.
